A new plan was approved by the Senate this week in Minessota but the chances than it moves forward are very slim because of so much disapproval form the banking industry and Gov. Tim Pawlenty. The bill would target about 12,000 homeowners in Minnesota and establish a process allowing homeowners who hold a subprime or negative amortization mortgage to defer a pending foreclosure for up to a year.
Many houses of worship in Connecticut are becoming a part of a network of hope for families facing foreclosure, leaders representing 350 churches launched a new program aimed at preserving home ownership. People in this new program will work with housing counselors to modify or restructure mortgages, so they may stay in their homes.
Abandoned homes in California are still a major problem. Abandoned homes are covered in graffiti, grass and weeds are taking over, abandoned cars are often left in the front or back yards and there are sometimes squatters. Banks are being alerted about these problems but nothing is being done. The city of Oxnard has 13 code enforcement officers who have been remaining very busy with vacant homes.
